The
Vision
FG:
So what is c_chord?
CC: “Well, a project I’ve worked
over too many times to care to count but I guess started sometime
in early 2000 as a way to do the opposite of acoustic music which
is what I was mainly writing at the time. Now almost 10 years later
the vision I guess is realized in it’s current form. |
 |
| Well…
the “c” stands for Counter sort of like what I do is so
detached from organic writing in the classical sense you know…
today everything is all automated and reliant on energy versus; we
exerting the energy to realize our ultimate musical expression. Our
musical and performing forefathers really did lay down the ground
work for us. I look to them as the cornerstones, to push myself, sorry
been rambling…" |

FG:
That’s why we are here… go on. |
CC: "So it is more like the
opposite of composition be it musical, visual or any other
creative process… and the Chord is kind of two things
to me like the obvious, music or our language of expression
and the second like the “thing or chord” that
is our “human experience” or thing that keeps
us together as a race, day after day even if fossil fuel
is running out etc... I draw inspiration from my environment
and what I experience on a daily basis, life is full of
music and interesting visual stimuli. The day I stop observing
is the day I quite recording man! The race we run can sometimes
take a harsh turn from the natural and often forces us into
our capsules of safety. Chaos can easily take hold of our
senses when we're trying to cram everything together under
the guise of “what's normal” our daily routines
are anything but, so I choose laughter... it's
medicine. I don't know what I would do without a good shtick,
fresh herbs in my food and a nice bottle of wine... you
know?"
FG: hum... true we all hustle,
good stuff.. So the big question is. What wares and gear
are you exploring these days? CC:
"Well recently I have been going back to my guitars.
Working out moody sounds and arpeggiations for samples to
compliment my melodies. Sometimes I employ an old viola
I salvaged from a pawn I haunt. Also working with Ableton
8 I wish I could have had my hands on 7, will be playing
catch up for a couple of weeks …so I was at 6 for
ever it seems still on it on some machines but 8 is where
it’s going to be at for awhile I can already tell.
Oh, super excited about my new 13" Unibody Pro with
an xp dual boot, it’s become my invaluable assistant
everywhere I go cause it’s like having a whole studio
in my bag! Crazy man! Coming from an old tibook mainly used
for sampling and rearranging." FG:
Wow! Vintage, recycling at work.
CC: "Well I was doing the
bulk of programming and composing on the G5 tower and other
machines-

slaved to it for vst and such but was finding a needed for
more freedom and versatility the old desk/screen setup is
nice for when you need to ride in the Cadillac and cruise
or for heavy lifting and more tracks/ sound modules etc...
but it’s nice having options for what mood your in.
Now I find myself more equipped for when ideas present themselves
on location or just wanting to do some improvisation, beats
or melodies acapello style. You now the built in mic is
decent with some funky Fxs it’s really opened up all
kinds of possibilities for re-sampling and LFO/ sound design
in whatever DAW I might be in at the time.
FG: Will you keep us informed
on the new projects?, tell us about new recordings.
CC: “You're welcome any
time man! Yes definitely… Actually I am working on
the videos and Masters for the new tracks and should be
up by end of this fall 2009, here’s hoping…I
will say a bit but seeing that the project is more organic
for me since my new setup I hope the video will speak for
itself. There is a lot of attention to detail and Fxs in
the post. But I am trying for more of a dry feel with big
spaces thrown in at just the right intervals for emphasis
of theme or contrast. Also a return to the guitar, fretless,
strings and voice. It’s nice to be able to sing or
add melody again after so much digital work re-mixing past
projects. I will elaborate the next time we talk…
hope you enjoy "Triggers" it's actually going
to be on a series of older works I've been remixing and
doing alternate mixes with. The new stuff will be up soon.
